Alistair Swayn was a leading architect in Canberra, founder
of Daryl Jackson Alistair Swayn Architects (DJAS), Life Fellow of the
Australian Institute of Architects, Professorial Fellow at University of
Canberra, and the inaugural ACT Government Architect.

Alistair believed that architecture and design is an integral engagement with humanity supporting equality and contribution from all. Alistair established the Alistair Swayn Foundation before his death in 2016 for the enrichment and advancement of Australian Architecture and Design culture.

The Swayn Centre for Australian Design at the National Museum of Australia connects Australians and the world to Australian design, through a program of exhibitions and events, collections and research, showing how design and innovation can enrich our lives.

The Swayn Centre for Australian Design acknowledges the Ngunnawal, the Ngunawal and the Ngambri peoples, the traditional custodians of the Canberra region, and recognises their continuous connection to culture, community and Country.
